My Name is Kris and I Blah-g

Several times I have started a blog in response to some idiotic statement about the LDS church and each time I have deleted the post before I could publish it. Clearly the recent exposure the Church has received – whether it be about Mitt Romney or the PBS documentary – has me vexed. I would like to respond with as much muster as the naysayers who spew their venom towards members of my faith but I can’t. I try but then I remember, what would the Lord have me do? And the answer is the same, the Lord would not respond that way.Today, Al Sharpton is back-peddeling over comments that he said about Mitt Romney not believing in God. There are arguements for each side and it’s my personal belief that Sharpton meant what he said and he’s only getting defensive because he’s being called upon for his hypocrisy, especially in light of his involvement over the Don Imus thing. What irks me most is not what Sharpton said, he’s clearly ignorant on many things and this is just another but how he won’t be held to the same standard as Don Imus. Is it because he’s black and his minority status makes him entitled to belittle another group? Is it because the liberal media doesn’t include this comment as a biggoted comment? Perhaps the media feels the same about the Church as he does? I don’t know. What I do know is that nothing will happen. Nothing. Yet, anyway. I went to Youtube.com to view the video clip and ended up reading the 20+ pages of comments the clip had received. I was appalled at the vile and hatred I saw there. When it comes to my faith, I have perhaps been looking through rose colored glasses because I thought we lived in a day that we were becoming a more accepting and tolerant people. It’s ok for gays to marry, apparently, according to the liberal media. Who are we to deny two people in a loving relationship to recognize their committment to each other. Right? It’s ok to teach the Koran in school…how else would we be able to better understand the Muslims? Right? But it’s apparently not ok to believe that Christ taught his gospel to people in other countries after his death. It’s not ok to believe that we can have additional scripture or that there were no other prophets other than what is in the Bible. It’s not ok to believe that we have a fullness of the Gospel. I’ve been mistaken. I thought that we’ve come a long away from those days of the torture, rapes and murder of our LDS forefathers. We may not encounter those same types of atrocities now but we are still accused of many things, prejudiced against for our faith and reviled by those, like Sharpton who like to consider themselves champions for the oppressed. How ironic.So, I won’t react irrationally and spew any of my own venom. If anything, it is stuff like this that has reinforced my faith and belief in what I know to be true. We are held to a higher standard for a reason. We can’t force anyone to believe as we do but we can live by example and when the day comes that we stand before the Lord, we can at least be comforted in the knowledge that, although not as perfect as He, we did try to be as He is.
