Graduation Day
Tonight my baby graduates pre-school. I know that may not seem like such a momentous occasion for some of you but this is just the beginning of the many milestones that Michaela will reach through out her life. When she was 4 months old, I returned to work and I was worried that I would miss out on her first word, first steps, etc. It was very important to me then as it is now that I be there to see these moments in her life happen. The cool thing about being a parent is that since you’re not the one experiencing the new stuff, being a spectator is actually pretty neat. When you go through these things yourself, you like the attention but you don’t really chalk it up as anything that special. At least I didn’t. But now I understand what all the gushing was about when I was younger. I look back at pictures of me when I was Michaela’s age. There is a classic one of me on my first day of kindergarten standing by the tree in the front yard and wearing my name tag around my neck. The resemblence between myself and Michaela is striking. That little girl standing by the front yard tree will be Michaela in about another month and that is a WHOA! moment. Michaela will have lots of them and I can’t wait to see it.Pap and Gram have come for a visit. We’ve been lucky to see them twice already this year and the year’s only half over. A 3rd time is definitely a record. We were thrilled to learn they wanted to be here to share in Michaela’s special day. So, we are excited. The party will be fun. I get to leave work early today to make the preparations and then at 5:30 the ceremony will begin. I am not sure what to expect. I heard that cap and gowns will be worn. How cute is that? There’s nothing like seeing little 4/5 year olds running around looking like lil’ scholars. I plan to video tape the event. How cool would it be to one day combine all of Michaela’s graduations into one tape or DVD? Will they still use DVDs in 15 years?Anyway, today will be fun. I’ll post pictures when I have them!
