So, I’m still living…
Judging by the drop off in my stats, people must have gotten tired of coming back to the blog to see if I reached my destination on Wednesday. In short, I did. But not without a little drama. I arrived that airport 2 hours early. It took about 30 minutes to get through security and when I did, I discovered what a zoo the airport was going to be. I made my way to B13 and saw a nice crowd of people. Since I had Michaela in tow and was carrying an over stuffed back pack, a rolling carrying on AND her car seat, I still managed to run between B13 and B18 to see what I could do about getting on a flight. The lady at the counter recognized me as Mike’s wife and told me that he had already been up that morning to list me on the St. Louis flight (awww!) and so she said to go back to B13 to wait. I went back and about 2 minutes later I got this nagging feeling that maybe I should ask her if he listed me on the flight to Albuquerque. So, back to B18! She tells me that I am not listed so I ask her to please put me on the list just in case. Back to B13 to wait for the direct flight. And I waited. And I waited. It is 11:55 and the plane is late leaving but there is no word if they have room for non-revs to fly. They never did say anything and it took the plane leaving to give me my first clue that I was NOT going to make that flight. Albuquerque was leaving at 12:00. Michaela and I took off running for B18 and there we gave a look of dispair to the flight attendant. Lots of other non-revs were there trying to get on Albuquerque, too. I just hoped that I had placed my name at the top. I heard a familiar voice behind me say “this isn’t looking too good.” It was Mike.No. It wasn’t. He waited with me as we watched the customer service agent give us a quick look and run down the jet way to get an update on the seating availability. Before we knew it she was running back yelling for me to give her my passes and hurry and get on the plane. There were 2 seats left. Whew! That was close!! We made it and luckily that was the only stressful part of the day. Albuquerque was wide open and we were able to sit back and relax while we waited for our flight there. On Friday, Mike called to let me know that the flights back home on Sunday looked even worse than Wednesday and that I needed to leave Saturday night. It wasn’t in my original plan to do so but when you travel like this you have to be super flexible. I heeded his advice and told the folks that I needed to be at the airport by 5. No drama. We made it to St. Louis without incident by 4 and Michaela and I were sitting at the gate waiting for our 6:55 flight by 5. Unfortunately, our flight didn’t leave until after 7:30 but that’s ok. We made it on and got home in one piece. The trip report I will save for another post. It was quick but worth it.
