No Comments That Last Mile
I brought my iPod to work today. I was listening to random stuff and then a song came on by Jeff Carson. Who? You may be asking yourself. Jeff Carson was a country singer in the mid-90s that had a pretty big hit called The Car. The song was kind of a big song around the time that I met Mike. In fact, when he and I met, it was his favorite song. He talked about it so much that a month after we met, for his birthday, I gave him the Jeff Carson CD. Shortly after his birthday he told me that he had been listening to the CD I gave him and that he found our song. So during one of our marathon phone calls one night, he played it for me over the phone. The song was perfect and of course, I never had a guy dedicate anything to me before. It quickly turned into our anthem and 2 years later was the song we played at our wedding. Its title is even inscribed on our wedding bands – the one I still wear and the one that I buried with Mike. So, today a Jeff Carson song came on and I recognized his voice right away and clicked on the menu to see if any other Jeff Carson songs were there. That Last Mile was listed there. I had a fleeting moment where I thought I shouldn’t listen to this song. But I must like to torture myself because not only did I listen to the song, I did so alone in my office here at work. I know. What was I thinking? What do I think these days anyway? That’s a silly question! So, the lyrics have a bit of sting now in hindsight of what has happened. If you want to listen to a clip of the song you can click on this link to go to Amazon and hear it. And here are the lyrics:Sometimes I look at you and my heart hurtsI guess when love’s this strong that’s how it can beWhen my time should come to leave this worldI hope the good Lord takes me in my sleepTo have to say goodbye to you would be impossible for meChorusIf you should wonder how long I’ll stand beside youWell you know only til the stars forget to shineEvery step I take will be one we take togetherGirl forever, til we’ve walked that last mileTil we’ve walked that last mileBefore I met you girl how could I have knownThat I’d ever wanna give so much, so endlesslyWhen silver’s in our hair and the years turn goldJust turn to me and you will seeSomeone who with every beat of their heartStill loves you faithfullyRepeat ChorusOoh every step I take will be one we take togetherGirl forever, til we’ve walked that last mileTil we’ve walked that last mile
