Somewhere the sun shines. It won’t here for at least another 4.5 hours. Yet, I wake – breath baited with last nights pumpkin pie and various other unpleasant tastes as I await my turn for the shower. What would get me up this early in the morning? Black Friday. It’s an annual tradition that despite Nana’s broken leg, we’re going to partake in again this year. And this year, we have a new participant – Matt who will get his first taste of the freakshow when we converge upon Walmart as they open at 5 this morning. On the list of attack is a $39 8″ digital frame and a $10 4GB memory card. I’m trying to figure out what will have the biggest frenzy of maniacs, the frame or the card? I am guessing the frame. I anticipate several women, still in their pajamas clawing at whatever stock is available and a few men who have been threatened this close to their lives if they come out of electronics with anything but that frame.  I haven’t decided if I should make it an urgent request so that Matt can feel the true measure of panic when he can’t locate the frame and when he does, the shelves lay empty. Is it fair to ruin it for him that early in the morning? The little devil in me says he needs to have the full experience but I have a feeling that I’ll be kind and let him in on a little Black Friday secret – Don’t Sweat It.  Nothing is worth the heartache. But seeing a few crazies out in the wee hours in the morning in their PJs, holding 32oz. cans of Rockstar and shaking when they get their hands on a pair of socks that are 60% off is. Prying that can of Rockstar from Nana’s cold fingers later? Priceless. Just kidding, Mom. Let the games begin…shower’s ready.
