Idol Auditions: Salt Lake City
Tonight were the SLC auditions and for the most part they weren’t as annoying as other cities but I will say that the hokey wholesome schtick they ran with during this episode was pretty stereotypical. Were a lot of the auditioners – even though they were aweful – polite when they were sent packing? Yes. But I bet most of America has never seen them drive. Politeness, courtesy and manners all go out the window once people hit the streets here. Were there stand outs tonight? Not really. I think the girl from Sandy with the monster tattoo on her right arm wasn’t as good as they said she was. Maybe it was the song she sang but I thought she sounded like she was under water. And the hippy girl from Idaho whose father and mother died…yeah, tragic back story but the voice? Kinda not doing it for me either. There were a couple cuties in the mix – the Osmond kid (adorable!) and that kid from Riverton who is the Senior Class President.. Well, they both sang some inspirational songs that maybe be a staple to the youth here in Utah but get past Tooele and you can just forget about it. Their song choices were slammed and for good reason. I know they were trying to be unique but you gotta pick a relevant song - one that you’d actually hear on contemporary radio. On a whole, so far the auditions have left me underwhelmed.
