7 Comments Adam Lambert is Disgusting
Well, I wasn’t sure if I was going to post anything about this today. But since a lot of searches are using the terms “Adam Lambert is Disgusting” and lots of people are finding themselves here, I may as well address the spectacle that was Adam Lambert at last night’s American Music Awards show. If you don’t know what I am talking about, you can view the video here:
Before I give my opinion on this, here is what Lambert had to say post performance:
You know honestly, if I offended some people… it’s apples and oranges. I’m not an artist that does things for every single person,” Adam told Access‘ Shaun backstage following his racy performance of “For Your Entertainment,” where he kissed male keyboardist Tommy Ratliff, who is straight.
“I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren’t really for everybody either,” he continued.
So… first of all, while I agree that some female performers have been getting away with questionable crap for too long, it doesn’t make it right that Lambert should try and do it too. For a guy who has for so long claimed that he didn’t want the focus to be on his sexuality but on his work as an artist, he sure did look like he had something to prove on that stage last night. Having recently been criticized by a publication for homosexuals for being NOT gay enough, he sure was over the top and down right gross. It’s this kind of junk that people like me find so disgusting and why people like him get mad at people like me. I don’t care if he was doing what he was doing with a woman and well, I guess he was in some parts…it doesn’t matter if he’s straight or gay, you just don’t pull that kind of stunt on television during family viewing hours. There are reasons why there are rules and just because he’s gay doesn’t make it discrimination to alter his performance. What makes him so special?? Why should he get away with it when others can’t? ABC is responsible for what it shows on the air. They face stiff penalties if they break those rules. They had every right to keep what was shown live on the East Coast from being shown on the west.
But back to Lambert….I never really saw the attraction during AI…I was amused by his theatrics at best. He did make the competition interesting because we never really knew what he would do next. But we never really had to worry about him simulating oral sex or kissing another guy or feeling up a woman’s crotch. And this is what he did last night. It was gross. It was deplorable. Seeing him behave in such a way just makes him another angry gay person who has seen their time come and gone. And he just barely arrived. Will his career survive? I dunno. Not if he keeps pulling crap like this. His ego has outpaced his 15 minutes ten fold.
I am not understanding why the performance was considered so “Disgusting.” I feel like everyone is being quite uptight about the whole thing. It really was not that bad. Is there something wrong with a brief kiss between 2 people? Is it because it was 2 men? So we should be teaching our children to be homophobes? The crotch rubbing I agree was a little over the top, but I do not see why it should really be that traumatizing. The men on leashes were just hilarious. I believe the Outrage over this performance is just silly and exaggerated. The outrage is more disgusting than the performance itself.
Seriously? Nothing wrong with it? I would agree with that if it was merely a kiss – even if it was between two men. But it was lots more… S&M, fondling, simulated sex…flipping off the audience. That has no place on prime time television and he knew it. He did it anyway. How presumptuous of him. It’s so easy for them to claim discrimination when they are criticized. I think it’s bunk.
What is this thing called Adam Lambert……..?What told it that it had talent? Why do we grown ups have to deal with degenerates?Worse, why do our kids have to see this deplorable trash in the form of humanity simply because it tries to look like a person?
I think what bothers me the most is that people like him think they can get away with this stuff because they think claiming discrimination will shut people up. The rules for them don’t apply and if they break them, the rest of us are just biggots. Well, too bad…the display was gross. He was gross and we shouldn’t have to be subjected to it just because he was “in the moment” which in and of itself is crap because the rest of the performance was clearly rehearsed….premeditated murder of family time TV…jerk.
I went to bed before he performed, but I must say, I’m glad I did. I wasn’t impressed with ANY of the performers…all the women having to do the tough chick crap…having other female dancers writhing around…and though sure it’s sexy in some standards, when all of them do it, its just BORING. I think Adam is a freak and a contradiction to himself. It’s types like him that give homophobes the reason to be homophobes…don’t preach to me that your just “normal” like “everyone else” and then shove your differences in everyone’s face. Sure, if what he did was really “in the moment” I wouldn’t have complained…but from all the pictures I’ve seen online, he had every intention of doing all of that. Honestly…I didn’t like it when Madonna gave a “job” to the microphone and rubbed crotches either…what makes him think he could do it and make it suddenly something people enjoy? OMG! I AGREE with Kris about something like THIS!?!?!?! ACK!!!! <<>>
I watched the show a few more time, and have been following the aftermath. I have adjusted my opinion a bit. I still think people are a little too uptight and getting themselves upset over this is silly. However I do see the blatant, in your face shock value that is pissing everyone off. I was thinking he was expressing himself, but now it is obvious it was a publicity stunt, which has totally worked in his favor. The performance was a big “F U” and based on his interviews and comments I do see your point.
