What people will do for a burger
For years Utahns have been begging for In-n-Out Burger to open locations here. They make pilgrimages to California to not only visit Disneyland but to partake in the freshly made to order burgers and authentic freshly cut on the premises fries. I must admit, the food is pretty darn good. To satisfy their insatiable appetite, a location opened in St. George several years back. It as a 6 hour drive but for most worth it. Then came news so many had all been salivating over, In-n-Out was coming to the Salt Lake valley and Utah County.I was pretty excited to have a part of California here in the Beehive state, too. And it was literally going to be just down the road from my house. The news broke last night that our location opened yesterday. Crowds had formed two days ago with people camping out so they could be first in line. Now, I wouldn’t go that far. The food is good but hardly worth camping out for. I can’t think of anything I would camp out for! Matt and I decided we’d make our trek there for lunch today. We had anticipated an 11 o’clock time frame. The location is in a very busy and inconvenient part of Draper. Why they chose to put it there is beyond me. There are so many better places it could have gone in Draper. But I digress…it is what it is and getting there takes a plan. Our plan was to avoid the freeway and the main road leading to the shopping center at all costs. It was a good plan. The back road in was the way to go. We approached the restaurant and noticed that despite it not being open for another 10 minutes (mind you, it was 10:30 in the morning!), the line for the drive thru was out past the menu, through the parking lot and out the back of the shopping center down the road that leads out back. Entry into the shopping center was pretty much restricted anywhere near the restaurant which I would imagine doesn’t bode well for the businesses that are near by. We spied a space up front and parked the car. Inside was packed with people waiting anxiously for their food. Employees were every where handing out stickers and welcoming us. It was kinda weird and so “Utah”… We managed to walk right up to place our order without any delay. As we waited for the food to be prepared, a line of people had formed behind us and spilled out into the parking lot. Hundreds had flocked to Draper to have lunch at 10:30 in the morning. If it was this crazy then, I wouldn’t want to see it at lunch time!!I think we waited all of 10 minutes for our food which was pretty good. Matt was happy ….especially since he got his new hat…
