Blogs have been few and far between lately. Not much to say, I guess. I’m watching Idol live tonight so I figured I would react to the performances as they happen. First, I am excited to see Harry Connick Jr. on the show! I think he’s super talented and he seems to be pretty stoked about helping the remaining contestants out.

First up is Aaron who sings Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon. I actually think this is one of Aaron’s better vocals. I still don’t think he’s strong enough to win this. His voice just doesn’t seem all there. He tends to go flat periodically no matter what genre of music he’s singing. That being said, he did well. The thing is that he’s got 4 others that are super strong in the vocals AND delivery dept and that’s what he’s got to worry about.

Casey is up next with Blue Skies… NO GUITAR! And he is looking a little uncomfortable which is kinda good but then again, his voice is sorta shaky. Maybe he needs to turn around so we can see his tight pants… LOL. Sorry. Well, he’s in trouble tonight. Boo! Eek! Kara said he sounded like a lamb… HA HA! I agree. That wasn’t good. Quick, Casey! Take off your shirt! Desperate times, dude…he just bought Aaron a prayer.

Crystal sings Summer Wind… Eew. Huge tattoo on her back. Blech. But I digress – it’s about the singing which is good. Her voice is as always, strong and beautiful but the song?? Hmmm… kind of boring. She’ll be ok though.

Michael is next with The Way You Look Tonight… LOVE this song and this genre works so well for Michael. He’s wearing the Sinatra hat… hmmm. Well, vocally this was good. I wouldn’t say that I liked his version better than any others I have heard of this song. I don’t. BUT, his was the best and most Sinatra-esque so far tonight.

Lee closes the show with That’s Life… LOL…Harry is playing a “Napoleon Dynamite organ” (if you saw the movie, then you know what I mean)…that’s distracting. BUT…Lee is super cool with this performance and he’s certainly gonna be in the top 2. He slayed this and it was great.

Oh my gosh…Harry Connick is so funny. He should replace Simon when he leaves.

Who’s going home?? It pains me to say it but I think it’s Casey…

Yay! Thank goodness! Hallelujah! It’s about time! What other cliches can I say? Honestly, Siobhan Magnus WAS entertaining – kinda like roadkill, the curiosity as to what monstrosity she’d wear next and how many windows she’d break with her shrill singing would be enough to keep some folks tuning into this years ever dull American Idol. But like Adam Lambert from last year, while the show they put on may be interesting, would you pay for a full album of that?

I don’t think so! And I haven’t thought so all season long. While her voice when not communicating with dogs in the greater Los Angeles area is pleasant, it’s not anything that I’d call super special. Although I admit that when she is singing “normal” she sounds a little like Linda Ronstadt.

It was time for her to go. I was thinking the weirdness factor may have kept her til top 3 but I am glad that most of America has agreed with me (again). Next up – Aaron…. dudes, seriously? He is praised day in and day out. It’s like they know something we don’t know. Is he emotionally unstable to take harsh criticism? He is incapable of NOT singing flat each week. I have no idea what these judges are hearing but what’s coming out of my TV speakers at home is not Idol-worthy. I hate the comparisons to David Archuleta. Simply, there is NO comparison.

So, let’s revise the top 3…. looks like it could be shaping up for a Crystal, Lee and Casey top 3 that is if Michael can hang on being the survivor that he is – which is ok because he doesn’t suck. It appears that we’re heading for a Crystal vs. Lee finale and with as disappointing as this season has been there is a glimmer of hope that there is still justice in this world.

Who will go home? Well, who cares? I think it’s time for Tim to go… next will be Aaron followed by Michael or Casey. The top 3 is shaping up to be Crystal, Lee and Siobhan. I’d be satisfied with a Lee or Crystal win as I like them both.

Is it me or have the last 2 seasons of Idol been kind of a bore? There just hasn’t been a contestant to be excited about since David vs David.

It’s Elvis Week on Idol and this week’s mentor is Adam Lambert. Eh… um… OKAAAY… I guess it’s to give tips on showmanship? I don’t really know why he’s there otherwise. He didn’t win Idol and he hasn’t sold gazillions of albums or play massive stadiums. He talked big though as if he knew what he was talking about and I suppose he gave some good advice but then again some of the stuff he told the idols to do they didn’t do and I thought that was awesome.

As a whole, I really thought this week was boring. Nothing sucked that bad but there wasn’t anything that was THAT great either. The run down is as follows:

Crystal Bowersox – Saved – What can be said? It was Crystal. It was solid. It was soulful. It was good.

Andrew Garcia – Hound Dog – Andrew’s in serious danger this week which sucks. I am still really rooting for him but he slowed down this song and it wasn’t all that great. I think he sang it fine but the song itself was dull and when I think of this classic Elvis tune, that is not the description I’d give it.

Tim Urban – Can’t Help Falling In Love – Tim did awesome! He’s gonna live to see another week and I think it’s kinda funny!

Lee Dewyze – A Little Less Conversation – This was my favorite performance of the night. Lee has consistently grown on me week by week. He’s cool and I like ‘im!

Aaron Kelly – Blue Suede Shoes – I think this was Aaron’s best performance yet. It sounded better than any of the others he’s given but there’s just something about him. I just don’t see it happening for him.

Siobhan Magnus – Suspicious Minds – Blech. I didn’t like this and that stinks because I really like this song but not how she sang it was was kinda like Cybil performing it. It was just weird. If I had to pick a bottom 3, I’d put her in it this week.

Michael Lynche – In The Ghetto – Way good rendition of this song which isn’t a song I particularly like. He changed it up just enough and it was very nice.

Katie Stevens – Baby What You Want Me To Do - Eh… Okay, so this was probably one of the better Katie performances but definitely not as good as last week. It was just OK.

Casey James – Lawdy, Miss Clawdy – Me wuvs Casey. And he was totally in his element with this song. I can kinda understand why the judges said is the same ol’ same ol’ with him but that’s who he is. At least he isn’t all over the place like Siobhan.

Bottom 3: Andrew, Siobhan and Aaron – if I were to pick it based on this week’s performances. Probable Bottom 3: Katy, Aaron and Andrew.

Going home? Andrew and Aaron.

First off, last night’s Idol didn’t suck. There really wasn’t one performance that was cringe worthy. I found the whole thing enjoyable…but…it wasn’t perfect.

Aaron Kelly – Long and Winding Road – This was Aaron’s weakest performance to date. I am not really feeling the love for Aaron although a part of me thinks I should root for the guy because he’s from my husband’s neck of the woods. But it’s just not there for me. I don’t really care for his voice most of the time and last night just fell flat. There were lots of bum notes and the song would never end. It was not horrible but it wasn’t great. Easily forgettable. I’m predicting a bottom 3 for tonight.

Katie Stevens – Let It Be – This was Katie’s BEST performance to date. The vocals were so good. I liked everything about it. She deserves to stay this week and hopefully avoid the bottom 3 because she was that good. The thing is…she’s been in it 2 weeks in a row. Can she avoid it this week?
Andrew Garcia – Can’t Buy Me Love – Poor Andrew was kinda beat up again by the judges. I don’t know why. It was a solid performance. I like his voice. I like him. He looks like the heat miser from The Year Without a Santa Claus and who doesn’t like that guy? The thing is that the song was Can’t Buy Me Love..it’s a happy peppy song that he changed up a bit which showcased his artist skillz but it just wasn’t a wow vocal which I suppose was the point of the night. In terms of THAT, I think Andrew may be looking at a bottom 3 visit this week – unfortunately.
Michael Lynche – Eleanor Rigby – I was not a fan of this performance. It was just weird. I didn’t think it sounded that good and it was kinda dramatic and gospely or something. It was just alright. And like Andrew, he could face a bottom 3 visit.

Crystal Bowersox – Come Together – Crystal is just great. She can even make the Didgeridoo cool. Simon thought having that instrument was distracting and perhaps in person it was. But on TV, they didn’t show the guy playing it THAT much. So as a viewer I wasn’t really put off by it. This was a solid performance.
Tim Urban – All My Loving – I am confused as to why the producers would ask this guy back if all they intended was for him to be a punching bag for the judges. There were lots of other really good singers to choose from but why him? The only thing I can think of is that he’s good looking and kinda has that Sanjaya innocence about him that makes for an interesting show. People freak out as to why he’s still there. He’s fodder for the blogs and certain websites that aim to undermine the Idol voting but whatever…last night he sang a song that fit his voice. He sang it well. He was in key. And he was pretty good. Will he hit bottom 3? Probably. But judging on that performance alone, he may just stick around another week.
Casey James – Jealous Guy – Whoa. This was good. People are underestimating Casey…could be his good looks but whatever. He hit it spot on with the vocals last night and it was the best performance of the night!
Siobhan Magnus – Across the Universe – I think that my daughter should critique these performances. I asked her this morning about the show and who she liked best. She said Lee’s was WEIRD. And she said that Siobhan had a nice background (she was diggin’ the disco ball effect) and she was dressed all sorts of crazy. Michaela thinks that if Siobhan were to be in a fashion contest she would totally lose. What a funny kid. Anyway, Siobhan tried the understated approach this week and although she gave a pleasant sounding vocal, the performance was a snoozefest. Seriously. It was boring. I kept waiting for a big moment but it never happened.
Lee Dewyze – Hey Jude – Lee wins the WTH award for the night. As if the Didgeridoo wasn’t enough, Lee had to one-up Crystal by introducing the bagpipes complete with a player in full Scottish dress and it was so out of place. It was so random and weird, I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry. Lee single-handedly let the air out of his big ol’ balloon that he blew up last week with his fabulous performance. Had it not been for this, he would have ranked right up there with Casey, Katy and Crystal for the night. That was out there…

Who’s going home? I suppose I should phrase it as to who SHOULD go home….based on last night’s performances I would say Aaron as his was the weakest. Based on a whole, probably Tim because how much more of this farce can we take? That being said….usually these guys who turn into the season’s clowns last until about top 7 or 6. He could be with us a wee bit longer. Bottom 3 will probably be Aaron, Tim and Andrew. Aaron goes home.

Last night the Idol Top 10 performed with Usher as the mentor. I wasn’t all that enthused about Usher – don’t really know his music, etc. But I was impressed with him as a mentor. He seemed to really teach the performers about PERFORMING and that is important. You can sound good but if you don’t look good singing it, what’s the point? I think a lot of the performers stepped it up last night and used the advice they were given to their advantage. It was overall, a good night.

Aaron Kelly – Ain’t No Sunshine - I am not on the Team Aaron Train… sorry, folks. This was just not up to par with others of the night. It seems like Aaron just has some work to do. He sounds better when he’s singing for the mentors but get him on the stage it it sounds shaky…and dare I say it, kinda pitchy…

Crystal Bowersox – Midnight Train to Georgia – This was nice. Crystal is just a power unto herself. She showed a tender vulnerable side with her performance which was so different than what she usually shows. But I agree with Simon when he told her to not forget who she is and to not change into something she’s not.

Lee Dewyze – Treat Her Like A Lady - Me likey, Lee! This performance was outstanding and the song – the way he sang it – would be one that I would buy. Great job!

Katie Stevens – Chain of Fools - Meh. I guess vocally, she did ok but this song was too weird. She should have sung something else. I am not into Katie…

Andrew Garcia – Forever - AWESOME! This was so good. Not a Chris Brown fan…for a variety of reasons, people but this song was really cool and I loved the acoustic guitar and beat box. Way good and his little smile in the middle of the song…kinda felt like he either knew something we didn’t know or he just thought the lyrics were stupid. I dunno. It was really good. WTG, Andrew!

Tim Urban – Sweet Love - This performance was wooden and down right creepy. Nevermind that it was sung “ok”…Ellen was right to compare him to a bedroom stalker. Just weird!!
Didi Benami – What Becomes of a Brokenhearted ’nuff said..

Michael Lynche – Ready for Love - Very nice….dramatic and beautiful….but kinda boring. *shrug* He’s cool, though.

Casey James – Hold On I’m Coming - Was it just me or did Casey seem to smile throughout this whole song? He was having loads of fun performing this and was totally in his element. It was kinda hot!

Siobhan Magnus – Through the Fire - The only thing I liked about her performance was her boots. This was seriously a train wreck…all over the place vocally, screaming (AGAIN!) and it was just super kinds of awful. Luckily for her, Didi was worse.

Who’s going home? Either Didi or Tim….

Some are saying it’s Siobhan Magnus but she’s too weird! Top 3 will be Crystal, Lee and Siobhan. Sorry, Andrew but you’re just not cutting it anymore.. Too bad because I was really rooting for you.

So this week’s theme was Number 1 hits and the mentor was Miley Cyrus.

That’s right.

Miley. Cyrus.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on that…

Yeah, so the only person that would be an even more ridiculous mentor would be me. Hey, there’s an idea….

Siobhan Magnus – Superstition – Seriously? She is considered one of the top contenders now and I suppose I get it because she’s different. But the screaming is getting super annoying. Her offstage personality is just really dull (monotone voice, et. al). I know. I know…it’s a singing competition…we’re supposed to LIKE them though right? Meh.

Didi Benami – You’re No Good – The was broadway-ish and by that I mean she was certainly performing and playing a part. Her singing wasn’t very good though. She CAN only sing one type of song in my opinion and who wants to buy an album filled with that? Not me. Blech.

Casey James – Power of Love – I loved Huey Lewis and the News. I loved the song. I just don’t know if I love the song now 25 years later. He sang it ok. He played guitar awesome. It was good enough to move on but yawn!

Katie Stevens – Big Girls Don’t Cry – Ugh.

Andrew Garcia – I Heard It Through The Grapevine – Thank goodness for TiVo and fast forward. Painful.

Michael Lynche – When a Man Loves a Woman – Nicely sung but kinda boring. But good enough to proceed.

Crystal Bowersox – Me and Bobby McGee – The ONLY performance of the night worthy of any mention. Crystal seems to be the only contestant who is consistently good.

Aaron Kelly – I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing – Tonsilitis so he’s should skate this week? Well….maybe. I wouldn’t have heaped as much praise on him as the judges did and stupid Ryan Seacrest calling him David Archuleta was down right blasphemous. Not even close, dude.

Tim Urban – Crazy Little Thing Called Love – This was just ridiculously bad.

Paige Miles – Against All Odds – The WORST of the night. Very disappointing. Simon was right. There were like 5 different people singing the song. Call her Cybill…call her gone. That really sucked. Way to go ruining a great song. UGH!!!!!

Lee Dewyze – The Letter – This was a’ight. I will say that he gets an “A” for effort for stepping away from his guitar and trying to inject some personality into his performance. I didn’t really like the song, though. So, that is going against him. But frankly as it stands now he’s still one of my favorites if I HAD to choose a couple which is hard cuz this season sucks @$$.

Going home? Ugh! Send them all home! Alas, that’s not to be. It’ll be Paige.

I was pretty busy this week so I didn’t have time to watch Idol live. Thank goodness for TiVo and the internet. I kinda cheated. I read some reviews before I watched the performances. In fact, by the time I actually started to watch the performances, I already knew who the bottom 2 were – Paige and Lacey – both of whom I was not shocked to see there.

So, the performances….

First let me say that the judges seemed particularly NICE this week. I don’t know if it’s suppose to give them all confidence because they’re on a bigger stage in front of more people or what. I didn’t think there was ONE performance that was a WOW. Maybe it was the music. I am not a Rolling Stones fan. So, to me the music kinda stunk…but that’s just me….

Michael Lynche – Miss You

I was underwhelmed. Although technically, OK, the performance was sloppy and awkward. It was kinda uncomfortable for me to watch. It’s just weird to me to watch a body builder dance. One part of the body moves and the other part doesn’t. It sounds almost unfair to say because Michael is a really good singer and I like his voice a lot. It’s just not easy to look at. Simon had a valid point about it looking desperate. He was absolutely right. It was good enough, obviously to get through but at some point it won’t be.

On a side note…that stupid confrontation between Ryan and Simon was totally lame. Ryan should be chained to the stage. I am sick of the judges and Ryan thinking this show is all about them.

Didi Benami – Play With Fire

Didi was given rave reviews for this performance. I guess it was somewhat warranted because it was dark and haunting and she’s got a voice that should be singing about kittens and butterflies. I wasn’t that enthused though. It’s not a song that I’d ever buy, let alone listen to. I thought her vocals were shaky at best and it’s all just a little warbly and weird for me.

Casey James – It’s All Over Now

I blame Kara for making this harder on Casey. He’s too beautiful to look at and it’s obvious to the judges that they just can’t get past the fact that they have an adonis standing in front of them who could not only sing and sing well but play the guitar too. I think it’s kinda weird too but the fact that I can actually stand to hear him sing while I undress him with my eyes is really a bonus. Still, this performance was really good. There isn’t much moving around while playing the guitar unless they let him totally go and rip out a guitar solo which they won’t let him do. So, what else is there? It’s time for him to sing some sort of sultry ballad and walk the stage. They have enough girls now at the foot of the stage that he could totally play that up and turn himself into a total rock stud. He’s got the sex appeal. He may as well use it. By the way, I don’t recognize most Stones songs… so to me it was like hearing some of them for the first time which is great because I can’t compare to the original. So far, this was the only song that I actually thought was good enough to be a hit based on how one of the Idols sang it.

Andrew Garcia – Gimme Shelter

Poor Andrew…he is just totally pigeon holed into that one performance of Straight Up. I didn’t think this particular performance was as bad as what the judges said it was. It’s obvious that they hear something totally different live than we do at home. I think it was smart of Andrew to step away from the guitar and try to spotlight his vocals. He really tried and it wasn’t horrible. He’s got the voice. He just needs the material to deliver it and the Stones are not it.

Katie Stevens – Wild Horses

Meh. I don’t knock Katie for this…her voice sounded great. The song is a stinker. Yuck.

Lee Dewyze – Beast of Burden

I like Lee. He’s a honky version of Hootie. He’s got a great commercial sound and since this was a Stones song that I could remember, I thought it was even better than the original which isn’t saying much because Mick Jaggar can’t sing.

Paige Miles – Honky Tonk Women

The song was “ok” and Paige finally showed off her vocals which are really good. It may have been a little too late though…I don’t think she can surpass the momentum that Lee, Crystal and Siobhan have.

Siobhan Magnus – Paint It Black

Yeah…meet this year’s Adam Lambert (according to Kara)…SORT OF. This was dramatic, I suppose. But this was another one that was highly praised by the judges that sounded kinda all over the place to me. It was flat in many places and just weird. Her lower register seems to cause her problems. And Simon is right, she can’t scream every week. Last week was as WHOA…this week was a WHAT?! If she does it again next week, hide your fine crystal. There has to be more to her than that one note. Still…she’s come out of this from being obscure to being a front runner. Not too shabby…

Aaron Kelly – Angie

Meh… again.. The song was boring…it really was. He sounded ok… I’m just not getting it with him…

Lacey Brown – Ruby Tuesday

Another Stones song that I actually knew. And I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the sound of her voice. I didn’t like the flow of the song. I just didn’t like it. She’s a cute girl but I’m afraid there isn’t much room for a wide variety of song material. Kinda boring, if you ask me.

Tim Urban – Under My Thumb

Chalk this one up to another song I didn’t know so I had no expectations about it. I didn’t see the point of the harsh criticism. He obviously did something to the song that made it very different. I think the song itself is ridiculous but I liked the reggae sound he gave it. I didn’t think it was uber-suckage but it wasn’t great either. I wouldn’t worry about him getting too far if you’re one of those who is freaking out about why he’s still there. I am willing to bet that enough people like him “enough” to get him into the top 10 so he’ll be on the tour. But I doubt he’ll go much further than top 9.

Crystal Bowersox – You Can’t Always Get What You Want

Quick! Someone tell Crystal that you don’t divulge too much information about how you were feeling – in particular you don’t tell people that you just aren’t into it or you aren’t focusing on the competition, etc. They’ll start to think that you just don’t care. Crystal has a non-chalant attitude and in some ways that’s cool because her performing seems effortless. But then it’s annoying because if she’s not in it to win it then why is she there? I like her voice. I like her sound. She’s very good. But it’s starting to sound a little one dimensional and the same each week. She needs to change it up and I don’t know if that means losing the guitar like Andrew did or doing a different instrument or what. She needs to show MORE.

The Results…

So, who left? At the beginning I mentioned that when I actually sat down to watch the performances, Lacey and Paige were named the bottom two. If I had to guess at that moment who would go, it would have been Paige because there just wasn’t a whole lot there to go with in terms of her performances and what we knew about her. Idol seemed to pay more attention to the others. But after watching the performances, it was Lacey who should have gone because her vocals just aren’t that strong, at least for the material she’s been singing. Her performance this week was really pitiful compared to many of the others. It ended up that she was the one sent home and it was the right choice.

I’ve been reading the blogs and news sites with critiques about the Top 12 reveal this morning. I am bewildered at why they haven’t a clue as to why Alex Lambert and Lily What’sherface were sent home. Alex, while he has an interesting voice has yet to to let go of his fear and just perform. He stands petrified at the microphone each week and despite being given every opportunity to come out of his shell, he just would never even peek his head out. As for Lily, she made weird faces while she sang. Her voice while folksy and different doesn’t have that mainstream appeal. I don’t see her filling stadiums – coffee shops? Yeah. But that’s about all. I’m no expert but I am not short on opinions. I would most likely never buy their music. I could possibly listen to Alex but he’s such a bump on a log in the personality department that I wouldn’t dream of shelling out money to see him live. Does that mean he wouldn’t ever evolve into a great performer? No. It’s just an indicator that he’s just not ready for this. What America did was put them out of their misery (or ours) sooner rather than later.

So, who’s left:

Aaron Kelly - I just got back from a visit to Pennsylvania where my late husband was from. To my surprise I saw billboards with this kid’s face up everywhere in my husband’s hometown. Ends up this kid is from there and he’s got a solid local support group that is determined to help him get ahead in this competition. Fortunately for him, he’s made the top 10 with their help, I am sure. Unfortunately for him, he’s got the rest of America that could work against him unless he can stay away from songs that are too big for him. He really risked it this past week with “I’m Already There”…a great song but not one that he should sing. Content wise it wasn’t appropriate for a young kid to sing and style wise it just seemed like a BIG song…too big. Anyway, I think he’s likely to make top 10 but I don’t see him going any further than maybe top 7.

Andrew Garcia - Yeah…he’s been kinda disappointing lately. I thought his rendition of Genie in a Bottle, while not as great as Straight Up, wasn’t as bad as the judges let on. I still think he can make something of this and get into the top 4 at least.

Casey James - There was no question that Casey would take a spot in the top 12. He’ll be in the top 10 for sure. I think he’ll round out the top 5. I am not sure what he can do differently. He is what he is.

Crystal Bowersox - Crystal is the one to beat. She’s been consistently good however I have yet to hear her sing a song a different way. They sound like really good copies of the originals. To seal the deal, she’ll need to pull a David Cook and pick a totally unexpected song and completely change it.

Didi Benami - She’s getting a lot better. Her take on Fleetwood Mac’s song this week was her best yet and if she continues to do that, she could see a top 5 spot too. But I question if she’s capable.

Katie Stevens - Well, like Andrew, she could have peeked too early or maybe she is a victim to over exposure. It’s very obvious that these elimination shows are way too much for her to take. Maybe things will be different now that the top 12 is in place and the producers and music coaches can focus on less people. I still think she’s got the potential to be one of the last ones standing but as of this point, I don’t think she’s got it in her to win.

Lacey Brown - Surprised to see Lacey still chugging along. She’ll be vulnerable pretty much weekly. Unless she can pull out a show stopper, she will be singing for her life until she’s voted off. She will need to work hard to make Top 10.

Lee Dewyze - Lee has gotten better each week. I originally said he was “a’ight” but he’s GOOD! I like him more and more as times goes on. I really can see him and Crystal toe to toe in the finale and that could make up for the fact that so far, this season has been beyond dull.

Michael Lynche - Michael is great. I can’t help but like him. His singing is fabulous. He isn’t cut from the typical mold and yet, he’s a great entertainer. He has a very nice voice and he could be in it to win it, too. I am thinking he could very well be in the Top 3.

Paige Miles - Wow. I am actually surprised she survived this week’s cut. Her performance was super weak. I think she has lots of friends to thank for helping push her into the Top 12. She’s going to need that help to get into the top 10. I have heard some inkling of a great voice in her songs the past couple weeks but she’s another person who has gotten this far under the radar and is lucky to still be here. I am not sure she can get past some of the others to even survive much further than top 9 let alone top 10.

Siobhan Magnus - She still bugs me a little but I like her lots more than when the top 24 was announced. Her personality grates on my nerves. I am not sure why. She’s kinda weird. But when she sings, she can SING! It’s really good. There is definitely something there. Top 5?

Tim Urban - Cuteness over substance! The thing is that Tim sang for his life this week and delivered his best performance. Like Lacy, he will need to sing like his life depends on it week in and week out. Just the fact that he’s in the top 12 means that he could make top 10 on his looks alone. What does that say about the voters?

So, who will be in the coveted Top 10 that goes on tour?? Hmmmm… Well, I think Paige and Tim are the next to go – followed by Lacy, Didi and Aaron. That leaves Siobhan, Andrew, Lee, Crystal, Michael, Katie and Casey left and the order in which they’re voted off will depend upon which week they totally screw up. Right now if I had to pick a top 2 I would pick Lee and Crystal. Based on the performances the past 3 weeks, I pick the following for the top 5 – Crystal, Lee, Michael, Casey and Andrew.

Since I was gone last week, I am playing catch up. Last week’s performances aren’t really worthy of a recap. The people that went home deserved to go. So let’s move on…

Michael Lynche – This Woman’s Work – Wow. This was really REALLY good. However I thought Kara crying was a bit much. Kinda thought she was channeling Paula or something. Still…he deserved all the kudos. He just seems like the unlikely star but his voice is so good. I’m not sure he can win but he will surely be right up there in the top half of who’s standing when we head into the end of this season.
Todrick Hall – Somebody to Love - Meh. I dunno. Yeah. This finally showcased his voice which was really good in this song. I agreed with Simon though…he’s a theatrical singer and not what I’d call a recording artist. I just don’t see him doing anything commercial at all. And he rubs me the wrong way. He is a little too into himself which to me isn’t very likable. So if there are many that think the same as I do then I think he is vulnerable this week and this could be his last week.
Aaron Kelly – I’m Already There - This was good in some parts and pretty bad in others. Aaron’s vocals fell pretty flat in some parts of the song and it didn’t begin well. He seemed to pull it out towards the middle of the song but it was just OK. Unless he can get all of Middle Pennsylvania to vote for him like a million + times then he could be vulnerable too this week.
Casey James – You’ll Think of Me – Me likey! Prior DWI arrests and icky mug shot photos aside, the boy is making amends now and finding his path. He is super cute to look at and has a voice to match. The commercial appeal is endless with him. I cannot see how he does NOT make Top 10. He needs to be on the tour because…well, he just needs to be..
Andrew Garcia – Genie in a Bottle - Whoa. What?! Ha ha. I was like how will he sing this song?!? And he kinda made kinda Carlos Santana-ish and funky and totally not like the original which is good because it’s Christina Aguilara but whatever. He’s forever the guy who sings chick songs and sings them well. Is it as good as his rendition of Straight Up? Nah. But it’s good enough to keep him in there because (1) there are others that suck way more than him and he has more talent in his pinky finger than they could ever have. Like this performance or not, he proved he can take risks and that he can take a song that you wouldn’t imagine a guy, much less a guy like him, singing and make it his own. I liked it.
Tim Urban – Hallelujah - Tim may have saved himself with this performance because this was his best yet. He really hasn’t been good at all while he’s been on the show. But this performance was the first time I thought he actually proved he had a good voice – something that goes beyond his boyish good looks. The problem for him is that there are previous week’s performances working against him and that there are others who are better and who have established a fan base. I am not sure he can sustain for another week . IF he made it, then I don’t think he could make top 10 for the tour. That being said the 11 year olds that vote for him may get him through so they can have some good meet and greet experiences this summer. But still…hmm..he’s super vulnerable this week.
Alex Lambert – Trouble – This person can’t produce a personality to save his life. He constantly looks petrified to be there (with good reason but really…c’mon!) and I always wonder when he’ll just toss his cookies in the middle of the song. Still, he’s got a really interesting voice. There could be real potential there if he could just learn to perform. I don’t think he’s done enough to stick around. He’s gonna go home this week, I think.
Lee Dewyze – Fireflies – Me likey some Lee.. He’s a white Hootie. I just like his raspy voice. I have no idea what this song was as I have never heard it before but I liked it and I like him. He stays.

Lilly Scott – I Fall To Pieces - This wasn’t good. You just don’t mess with Patsy Cline unless you can sing the song as good as her and she didn’t. Still, she’s weird enough that people may vote her through just despite the fact that she drives me crazy. Ugh.

Katie Stevens-Break Away - Yeah…this wasn’t great. It wasn’t BAD…but it doesn’t live up to the hype that Idol has given this poor little girl. I think she is still good enough to make top 10 but that top 5 that I predicted a few weeks ago?? Not so sure unless she can stop listening to the judges and start injecting her personality more into the performances. Otherwise….. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Siobhan Magnus - House of the Rising Sun - In the beginning I did not like Siobhan. She gave me the creeps but I must say that she has grown on me. I am liking her more and more. She needs to lose the nose ring though. It’s really distracting. She can be so pretty but every time I see that thing I just want to yank it out of her nose. I thought she really sang this song well. Her voice reminds me of Linda Ronstadt (sp). It’s almost as good. She has done enough to make top 10.

Lacey Brown – No idea what song she sang - Whatever this song was fit her voice well. She sang it well. But she has yet to give a repeat wow performance like that she gave during Hollywood week. It’s great that she finally made it this far but there’s just nothing there with her. I dunno. No star factor. No stellar vocals. Not even a great performer. Just ok and that’s not good enough in my opinion to be moving on. She could go home this week.

Katelyn Epperly – I Feel the Earth Move - This song sucked. Not because she sang it. Just because the song itself SUCKS. Of all the music, why? WHY did she sing this? Is it because she’s got hair to match? I dunno. The keyboard didn’t do her any favors. It was sung a’ight…but it was really blah. And she may have shot herself in the foot with that performance. Luckily for her, Paige did really poorly.

Didi Benam – Rhiannon - I really liked this one!! I thought this was by far Didi’s best performance yet and I really thought she was going to mess up again and this would be the end. But this was really super good and she deserves to make top 12. Top 10?? Not so sure about that but this was great.

Paige Miles – Smile – This was bad…. so bad. Which is really TOO bad because Paige has such a great voice but she really screwed up on this performance. And because I don’t think she’s got the fan base to support her I am not convinced she can make top 10 let alone Top 12. I wish I were wrong but of all the girls who deserved to go this week based on THIS week’s performances, it is her.

Crystal Bowersox - Give Me One Reason – Awesome. Crystal is just so cool and calm and collected. She’s just like whatever, I know I rock. Crystal doesn’t give a crap if she doesn’t fit into this Idol mold. She knows who she is and what she wants to do and what she can do, she can do quite well. This song was hot. She is certainly the GIRL to beat.
