Grey’s Anatomy: 100th Episode

There has been much rumor and speculation about this episode. Between the writer dropping hints (it takes place during Meredith and Derek’s wedding) and the rabid fans in various forums and blogs predicting the outcome, it’s been a virtual frenzy and build up which ultimately led to disappointment for some people. I am not one of them. My expectations weren’t high to begin with. I enjoy the show simply because the characters are fun. The dialogue is witty and it’s one of my guilty pleasures in life. For others, however, this show IS a way of life. They talk about the characters as if they were real people. As I read some of the reaction to tonight’s episode, I was like c’mon, seriously? SERIOUSLY?! (yes, I just said that) Was anyone really that surprised? I wasn’t. So they gave the wedding to Izzie and Alex. Woopdie Doo. Honestly, I thought the gesture was touching. I was most disappointed with how short the actual wedding part was. All this build up and then a wee lil’ wedding ceremony and then Izzie shaves her head. So, for that, the episode was a big MEH!The only other thing that bothers me about this wedding was that I am not totally convinced of Izzie’s love for Alex. I can understand Alex’s for Izzie. But this girl has been a collosal pain in the butt since the very beginning of this series. Most of the drama seems to center around here which is puzzling considering the name of the show and I just can’t get past how she moves on from Denny, jumps to George and then ends up with Alex. Does that happen??? Denny was supposed to be this great love of her life and she explains tonight that when you’re supposed to be with someone there is a certain funny feeling you get in your stomach and it’s all exciting and stuff. She says that Denny didn’t make her feel that way but Alex does. He does? Since when? Very weird for me. I suppose people do move on from the whole death thing. I admit that there are times that I wonder myself what the future holds in the whole romance department. I seriously doubt there is a future there. That part makes me pretty sad because I’m not what you call old. And this single life is certainly one that I have against my will. Grrrr…  So, I dunno…she moved on pretty fast, in my book. And Ijust don’t see that relationship she’s got with Alex as being all that believable. Of course, it’s just a TV show… so whatever.

Grey’s Anatomy – Season 5 Premiere

Whew! A post that isn’t saturated with politics. Yay! To be honest it was really great to get lost in some television tonight. It’s been a long 4 months waiting for the new season to begin. On that note, however, the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy was one really long two hours. Every commercial break that came seemed to be the end of the show but it was like a bad girlfriend, it just came back for more. I would be really jazzed about that but the only thing that “had me” in this episode was the new guy – Dr. Hunt who totally turned on Cristina and for that matter, really was something to look at. We have McDreamy and McSteamy…I’m trying to figure out what his name will be. What’s funny about the actor who played Dr. Hunt is that is in the movie Made of Honor which stars Patrick Dempsey. I spent most of the show wondering where I had seen him before and it was when they showed a commercial for the DVD that I realized that he was in that movie. Not very memorable or attractive in that movie but he seemed to make an impression in this episode of Grey’s Anatomy. As for the rest of the show…Um…I dunno. I thought Meredith was typcial annoying Meredith. Bailey was kind of a weird desperate Bailey and I wasn’t liking that. Karev was Karev and that was kinda boring. I’m not digging the whole lesbian story with Callie and Dr. Hahn. I’m just not sensing the connection there. Kinda weird. McSteamy is wandering around with no purpose so they better find a way for him to really make some waves because, really..what a waste. Richard was yelling at everyone. What is THAT about? I guess I have mixed feelings about this episode. For a premiere it lacked excitement. It just droned on and on. I hope it gets better but we have to wait TWO WEEKS for another episode. GRR! Now THAT’s annoying.

Grey’s Anatomy – Season 4…so far

I’ll be the first to admit that season 4 started off more with a whimper than a bang. I have read with interest the different bulletin boards out there and people are just so up in arms about this season. Frankly, I am enjoying it as much as I have in the past. I will say that season 2 was my favorite thus far but our characters are still great fun and it’s an added twist that they’ve introduced the new interns and have given all of our protagonists extra material to fuel their extraordinary lives. At first I wasn’t too excited about this because there’d just be too many people but really, let’s face it Meredith, Alex, Cristina, Izzy and George can’t be interns forever….well, maybe George can! The biggest complaint I have read about is the relationship between George and Izzy and although her relationship with Denny was truely a good love story, how long should she brood and mourne? Frankly, I would have liked it better to have Denny haunt her but how realistic is that? That being said, why can’t her relationship with George turn from friendship to love? It’s not unreasonable. What was rushed and forced before was his relationship with Callie and subsequent marriage which was, let’s face it a rebound from him being rejected by Meredith. I am so not on the Callie bandwagon. I’d rather see her suffer for a while longer. She seems to do that well. I didn’t care much about her before and I don’t care much for her now.Alex is the quinessential schauvanistic jerk. Then he met his Jane Doe and it soon became his turn to fall for a patient. Much to his chagrin Izzie fell for Denny but here he’s done the same and has been brooding for Ava for the first 3 episodes until this past week when miraculously Ava showed up and they managed to get it on undetected in some sort of doctor’s sleep room. Their reunion was somewhat unexpected unless you saw the previews but nevertheless, worth the wait. I liked seeing Alex this vulnerable. Ava again begged for Alex to not chicken out on her and the episode ended with her again leaving him, with hopes the he’d chase after her. Alas, it’s not going to happen, I think. Poor Ava. Alex is, after all, a jerk.Cristina is back. She is finally being who she needs to be – a cut throat resident who’d do whatever to get what she wants. Although I enjoyed Burke and their relationship, I realized I liked her better being like this. I’d like to see her go after Burke’s replacement – ol’ what’s her name. She’s a b with capital B if you know what I mean. Blech. What I like about Cristina is that despite her harshness, she has these rare moments of humanity and that makes for some entertaining TV.Bailey….ah, Bailey. Poor Bailey. I loved her as the nazi. I want more of that. She’s gone a little soft this year so hopefully, it won’t be a permanent condition. She’s still my favorite, though. I hope she kicks Callie’s butt.McDreamy vs. McSteamy…at this point who cares? Let them have screen time so we can stare! As for Meredith, I hope that with her finally pouring her mother down the drain, she can move on. Of course she can’t. She’s got little half-sis Lexie to contend with who is a constant reminder of her father who will undoubtedly return to provide more angst and bitterness. It’ll probably happen just as she’s this close to making something of her relationship with Derek and then bam! She’s back on the pity train and deciding that no relationship with any man is worth the heartache. Whatever. I mean, SERIOUSLY can we move on?So, no. I am not as anti-season 4 as other folks. I am not that disappointed. I was a little bored with episode 1, that is true but this show is still a guilty pleasure – far better than many other shows out there now a days. So therefore, I’ll watch so long as the dialogue is pithy and clever and we get an occasional peek at McSteamy without a shirt. That wouldn’t be too shabby either. The rest of ya, quit whining! On with the show!

Grey’s Anatomy – Season 4 – First 2 Episodes

It took a while and a trip to the ER but I finally had time to catch up and re-watch the season premiere and episode 2. The first episode wasn’t as boring as I remember. I will chalk it up to being distracted that night but after rewatching the episode, I did see some things that I did like.I think that if they keep up with the new residents acting badass around the new interns, it could be fun. The fact that Cristina is calling the interns she is responsible for by numbers instead of names is classic Cristina. I liked the fact that George will be worshipped by the new interns – at least for a little while. He’s just been a whipped puppy for the past couple of seasons. I liked that Alex admitted to Cristina, of all people, that he missed Ava/Rebecca and she, in turn confessed to missing Burke (who I actually don’t miss as much as I thought I would). I liked how McSteamy needs his friend more than he needs women. But, I’m still annoyed with the show’s protagonist, Meredith. Will she ever get over her father’s abandonment?Episode 2 was even better. My favorite part was the exchange between Bailey and Alex. She needed to chew him out and needed her to do it. Bailey is my favorite character on this show. And it’d be a shame to have her wilt under her envy of Callie getting the Chief Resident position. Ugh. Callie. She’s not very likable. I don’t even LIKE to hate her. So, after 2 episodes, I’m not too disappointed although I still miss Denny and am not sure what to think about Izzies sudden love for George. Unlike other fans, I don’t have a problem with her being in love with George – eventually but Denny isn’t even cold yet. So, it almost seems forced. What if George leaves Callie and then she realizes that all she wanted was his friendship and attention – not necessarily a romantic relationship? That’ll turn George gay really fast – maybe that’s the intent?

Grey’s Anatomy – Season 4 premiere

I think I will have to rewatch this episode. Either I was tired and missed everything or there just wasn’t much there. One minuted it started and the next it ended and I was left staring at the tv screen thinking “uuuuuuuuuh, what just happened to the last hour of my life?” That doesn’t bode well for this show that I love. BUT, I did not get much sleep the night before and I wasn’t hitting on all cylinders last night. Or could it be that I was distracted by the diamond anniversary ring I got from the hubby for our 10th anniversary!! Okay…back to the show…Let’s see..we have a new group of interns and George has made the decision to give it another go although I don’t think it was explained why. Last season ended with him cleaning out his locker and meeting Meredith’s half sister, Lexie. Is Lexie the reason? I dunno. Is it Izzie? It can’t be Callie who is just more annoying than ever. The rest…. Meredith, Cristina, Izzie and Alex return from what I guess is like a month’s long vacation? They let them all take that much time off at the same time? Weird…We find out that Meredith and Cristina went to Hawaii together on what was to be Cristina’s honeymoon with Burke. Alex pined for Ava/Rebecca and got some sort of weird lounge singer hairdo and goatee. And Izzie spent the time alone trying to figure out why George was ignoring her after her declaration of love. Bailey is back and pissed because the Chief gave her job to Callie who as zero respect from the other residents and sucks at her job. It’s obvious that the Chief has a soft spot for Bailey and maybe perhaps is planning to groom her for some other more important position later in her career? Maybe? I dunno. I just hope that Bailey doesn’t spend all season eating sour grapes about this stupid thing and we can see her making other people miserable besides Callie. She’s miserable enough on her own.I guess the most enjoyable part of this season opener was getting to see how the interns of yesterday had turned into badass residents and are doing all they can to make the lives of the new interns miserable. Cristina is on her way to being Cristina again. She spent some time pining for Burke which is understandable and next week she gets to have a confrontation with her ex-future monster-in-law and hopefully this will close the door on the Burke thing. I thought that Burke’s character was good and the whole thing about Isaiah Washington was dumb and unfortunate but it’s time to get over it.I am a little concerned about being overrun by too many characters. We have all these new interns and will they be just background filler – people for the residents to pick on? Or will they matter? Is Lexie the only one we’re supposed to care about? Finally, Derek and Meredith decide to break up but not before they can have break up sex. WHO does that?! And then we’re supposed to get excited about the “sex scene” but then it was a let down. Just a moment of breathlessness and then it goes all slow-mo and shadowy as they kiss and then it’s over. Mmm-k.So, I guess based on what I can recollect of this season opener, I was a tad let down. I hope next week is better. I will rewatch the episode sometime this weekend…maybe my opinion will change.

Isaiah…Isaiah…Isaiah

“I had a person in human resources tell me after this thing played out that ‘some people’ were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I’m a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn’t go around saying ‘Yessah, massa sir’ and ‘No sir, massa’ to everyone?”- Isaiah Washington

This guy just doesn’t know when to shut up about it, does he? Had he held his head up high and left with a little dignity, then maybe some of us would revolt enough to perhaps get ABC to reconsider their decision to let him go. I was pretty irked that he was gone. It left the whole storyline with Burke and Cristina up in the air and for a viewer that is really annoying! Now, I am starting to see why he was let go. He’s a loose cannon and really in love with himself, isn’t he? I have decided that those who cry out racism are the most racist/biggoted themselves. People can be intimidating, not because of their skin color but because of the way they carry themselves and behave. It’s obvious now that he was a liability which is sad because his character was enjoyable and added a dimension to the show that will be sorely lacking this fall.
