Idol: Top 9 – Top Downloads

Note: This was edited 4/6…because of the young eyes who read my blog. I have seen the error of my ways…Before the critique…I was just called a homophobic nutcase in a comment to one of my previous posts. Hmmm. Interesting. So, I will keep it real here with the comment about tonight’s episode of Idol. Let’s just preface it first by saying that nothing I write here will make Adam any less talented or less gay stinky dinky doo doo. He is what he is. Does him being a puff matter when it comes to Idol? No, silly. Look at Clay Aiken. I mean, seriously. But is there a double standard when it comes to what he has done in his past vs. what previous non-gay stinky dinky doo doo contestants have done in the past that have gotten them kicked off the show? Yeah. There most certainly is. One should be able to say what they like on their personal blog. I’ve got an opinion. If you don’t like it. Don’t read. No big deal. My point is that Adam has some things going on in his closet that for other people probably would have seen them dismissed from the show. Whatever. All that aside. Do I like Adam? I don’t care for his singing style. So, that’d be a no. But I am entertained by his performances. Big difference. Seeing him live on stage = good. Listening to him on the radio = bad. Me no likey. Comprende? You likey? Fine. You’re gay stinky dinky doo doo. J/K….SARCASM, PEOPLE!!Now on to the show…(remember, I’m keeping it real – no cliches)Anoop Desai — Caught Up : Anoop was the poop. I don’t mean that in a good way. This one sucked was stinky dinky doo doo. I didn’t like the song. I thought the performance was bad. He’s looking at the bottom 3 but…Megan Joy — Turn Your Lights Down Low : Anoop should be ok because Megan sucked ass stunk dinky doo doo even more!!! Seriously. She’s sucked sucked sucked stunk stunk stunk dinky doo doo. I never understood why she was even in the top 36 to begin with. There were so many other people who were way better like Danny’s friend – what’s his face with the pierced cheek and David Osmond (who I saw at the David Archuleta concert the other night – he’s just as cute in person). Megan, it’s time to go home!! It’s time to warble elsewhere – just don’t do it on my TV or radio. ARGH!Danny Gokey — What Hurts The  Most: Yay! First, the news broke a day or so ago about Danny’s grandpa dying (sad!) and comments from the various blogs and forums were as horrifying and cruel about Danny being a death magnet. People just were certain he’d pimp out his dead grandpa to get the sympathy vote and although I think he should be able to say whatever he likes and get his inspiration from whereever he likes, I was glad he just kept that piece of information personal and just stuck to the music for at least sparing the rest of us who actually like him the headache of reading such heartless crap. Danny really let it all out there with this performance and it was good.Allison Iraheta — Don’t Speak: I was pretty stoked she was going to sing this No Doubt song. Then they showed her infected finger in the video of her practicing on the guitar and that grossed me out. Then she sang the song and I wasn’t stoked any more. The judges hated her outfit. I didn’t care about what she was wearing. She just didn’t sound as good as she has in week’s past. Still…I have hope she’ll be around a little longer. She’s really the only girl left that can do anything.Scott MacIntyre — Just The Way You Are: Ryan said that Scott was going to sing Piano Man…but what he actually meant was he was going to sing a song FROM the Piano Man. I was worried because I don’t think Scott could pull off Piano Man – THE SONG. Anyway, this particular Billy Joel song was much more Scott’s speed. And although his voice clearly is NOT his strong suit, it’s still pleasant. His piano playing is stellar and let’s get real. The man’s handicap is inspiring. If only all of us could be as talented with eyesight. He could possibly end up in the bottom 3 but I still think Megan SUCKED stunk dinky doo doo MORE!! So he should be ok.Matt Giraud — You Found Me : This was terrible. Seriously. It was hard to listen to. It was hard to watch. I wish it had been a silent movie but then I couldn’t take my eyes off that thing in the middle of Matt’s forehead. I generally like Matt – very much. But this song sucked stunk dinky doo doo. And his rendition sucked stunk dinky doo doo. There were parts that were flat and I was praying for someone in technical to turn up the volume on his piano because at least THAT he could play. If he doesn’t make a return visit to the bottom 3 this week, I will be surprised. Still, Megan SUCKED stunk dinky doo doo MORE. So he should be ok.Lil Rounds — Surrender : Okay..WHO is advising Lil? From her clothes to her song choices. It’s a FAIL. She should be thanking her lucky stars she is still there. Luckily for her MEGAN SUCKED stinky dinky doo doo MORE!! Vocally, she did good. It was OKAY. The song? ARGH!! )!&@)!&^)^@&!^* Seriously? There other Celine Dion songs that are so much better but then there are other songs from other artists that are so much better. Does someone have it in for this girl? Do they want to use their Judge’s Save THAT BAD? Ok. Do it already because she needs to sing good music and fast. Adam Lambert — Play That Funky Music: I gotta hand it to Glambert… He keeps the audience guessing. Play That Funky Music? Mmmm-K!! But he did it. He pulled it off in his Adam way and it’s not surprising. I still don’t care for the screaming and screeching. My six year old and I sang along and hit all the same notes and sounded just like him. It can be done, folks. He’s not going anywhere. If he left the show before the finale, the season would be boring. Yes. That is true. And he may very well win this whole thing. It would not surprise me. But I still won’t buy his record. I don’t think I’d ever see him live except for maybe during Idol Live. This performance was typical Adam. He commanded the stage and it was good. I liked what he did last week better.Kris Allen — Ain’t No Sunshine: I like me some Kris Allen. He’s great. And I think HE is the dark horse who can ride in and ruin this for Adam and Danny. Kris is changing it up each week. His vocals are top notch. He’s showing he can do a little of everything. He’s got the whole package. He can be current (as the judges like to say). I would see him live. I would probably buy his music so long as he doesn’t have Megan (who sucks ass is stinky dinky doo doo) singing on it with him. And he loves loves LOVES his wife which is awesome. Bottom 3 this week – Anoop, Megan and Matt (or maybe Scott). Megan should and will go home. No wait. Don’t come home cuz that means, you’ll come back here. Stay there but don’t sing. Best of both worlds… Really, people..am I that mean? No. She’s a lovely person, I’m sure….just get her off my TV!! :-)

Idol Top 10: Motown

Tonight’s American Idol were the hits of Motown or the Best of Smokey Robinson…whatever you want to call it. Expectations were high for certain singers but could they deliver? Hey, I sound like Ryan Seacrest! THIS… is American Idol.Matt Giraud – Let’s Get it On - Loved it. Everything about the performance was great from the piano in the beginning to his soulful falsetto. Kris Allen – How Sweet it Is - I like Kris a lot. He’s just fun. I don’t think he’ll win. I doubt he’ll last more than maybe another 3 weeks but until then, I’ll just enjoy him. I think he deserves to get further than others on this show but I’m just not sure he’s got the fan base to pull him through. His song tonight was a perfect fit for him. Scott MacIntyre – You Can’t Hurray Love - Yeah..I didn’t like this that much. In the little video montage they showed he seemed to sing this song better but to hear it live, his voice was shakey…the back up singers were distracting. But Scott has built himself a fan base that will keep in the competition albeit for not that much longer.Megan Joy Corkrey – For Once in My Life - Words cannot express how much I dislike her singing. Megan Joy is very pretty even though like Carly Smithson last year, she has utterly destroyed herself by vandalizing the right side of her body with that hideous tattoo. I really wish she’d cover it up. The only thing more hideous is her singing. Like, Scott she sounds different in the video montages when she sings for the star mentors. It’s still warbly but it at least sounds controlled. Get her on stage and she’s the opitomy of suck. Seriously, why is she still here? She won’t be much longer.Anoop Desai – Ohh Baby Baby - Anoop just keeps getting better and better. He’s got such a pretty tenor voice. He’s so pleasant to listen to. But then where is the “star quality” in him? I don’t know if he can find it. He still looks like the guy who sits behind the desk programming C++ all day. That’s shallow to say but I am not sure  how they can fix that about him. But I am rooting for him because his performance tonight was really good!Michael Sarver – Ain’t Too Proud to Beg - The only thing that will save Michael this week is if millions of people hated Megan as much as I did. Michael took the advice that Smokey Robinson gave him to heart and he gave it the ol’ college try. He growled his way through this song and although, he sounded much better than some past contestants who have gotten to this point, this was just not his week. He will be in the bottom 3, if not go home this week.Lil Rounds – Heatwave - It has been one disappointment after another for me with Lil Rounds. This was supposed to be her week and if she can’t deliver a stellar Motown hit, then she is not deserving to go much further. She screached Heatwave and forced the song so terribly that it just let me wondering of all the gazillions of songs she could have chosen from WHY did she pick this one? Yeah, it’s got more energy but so what? This was just a huge mistake. She should be in the bottom 3 this week but she may be edged out by Scott or Megan.Adam Lambert – Tracks of my Tears -AI gave us a peek at Adam as they cut to commercial break. I think the gasps heard around America were clearly audible because I emitted one myself. I think it was more of an OH MY GOSH instead of a gasp. And my shock turned to disgust because this gimmick was going to work for him. I just knew it. And the judges were going to fall all over themselves and they did. I was just ready for it to be great and it was. And that pissed me off because I have dedicated this season to hating him. I still don’t think he’s got enough to be a star. Yes, his star will shine for a while after the show ends but let’s get real…Adam belongs on stage – on a BROADWAY stage. He’s so theatrical – so over the top. I feel like I am watching some sort of Drag Queen competition whenever I see him. It’s really bugging me. The judges call it artistry but I call it self-indulgent crap. That being said, I am thankful he didn’t scream this week. I think playing it straight was a good thing. His falsetto was fabulous. And him actually looking like a guy kinda made him cute except for his gayness which he kept in both of his pierced ears. Blech. He’s not going anywhere.Danny Gokey – Get Ready - Hmmm. The vocals were strong. He gave a typical Danny performance. It was good…but not great. I would have rathered hear him sing something more soulful and gritty, like Matt did. He needs to get some sex appeal because he’s got the women watching. He has their attention but he’s got to keep it before his schtick gets old. He’s already courting controversy because some viewers feel he is being unjustly “pimped” by the show. Like that’s his fault…. they judge him for completely the wrong reasons and I will quickly come to his defense whenever someone complains about the dead wife being talked about. To those idiots, they don’t know jack about being widowed. So they can stuff it. In the mean time, Danny Gokey can get his inspiration from where ever he’d like. I just wish he would have channeled it this week. He’s safe, though.Allison Iraheta – Papa was a Rolling Stone - This girl is bi-polar. Either that or being stuck between being a child and a woman is just doing a number on her. They interview her and she’s barely coherant. It’s like listening to a lil’ Paula.. But then get her on stage and she starts to sing and thankfully she does NOT sound like Paula. Allison is by far the best singer of all the girls left. She delivered another stunning performance this week that should keep her in the competition. The problem is that she’s got that other personality that grates on my nerves and I think the public isn’t having it either. I don’t know how they change that other than to make sure they do no more interviews with her. Or if they do, maybe she should sing her answers. I dunno. She should be ok this week but I’m not sure she can turn the personality around to save herself in the week’s to come.Bottom 3… Megan, Michael and Scott. Michael will go home but Megan SHOULD go home. Teetering on the fence of suckage is Lil Rounds. Kris and Anoop need to build up more of a fan base if they expect to make it in to the top 5. They deserve to be there but they need to step it up. The ones to beat, in my opinion are Adam, Danny, Matt & Allison as they are the strongest vocally. Judges save…will it be used this week? I think only if Allison, Matt or Lil Rounds get sent home. And I doubt that they will.

Idol: Top 11 Results

So, we now have our top 10 that we’ll get to see live when Idol goes on tour this summer. Tour members include Allison, Scott, Kris, Michael, Adam, Lil, Megan, Matt, Anoop and Danny. As surmised by my critique last night, Alexis was risking being sent home and sent home she was. She is not my first choice for elimination. If I had to pick a girl to go, it would have been Megan. And the fact that we’ll have to put up with her on tour is really disappointing. The only thing that could save this is if she faces early elimination so her time on stage won’t be as long during the tour – at least that is how it seemed in years past but my luck has her and Adam monopolizing the stage. I just may have to sit this Idol tour out…but we’ll see. It could be that my like for Danny, Matt, Kris, Anoop and Alison will help. Tonight the judges contemplated exercising their Judge’s veto to keep Alexis around. She had one final sing out and her performance was even worse than the night before. I was hoping the would send her packing but wasn’t sure they would since she had been such an early favorite. To surprise they told her that it wasn’t going to be her day because she was outta there. Just who are they saving the veto for??? Adam? Matt? Kris? Danny? I don’t see them using it on Scott. Anoop, maybe but doubtful. Next week is Motown. So, it should be a good week for most of them.

Idol: Top 11

Tonight’s show was pretty good and we have a group of 11 folks who are all worthy in their own right. It will be hard to pick which ones should go after tonight. There were certainly better performers tonight. Here is a run down of the performances:Michael Sarver — Aint Going Down Till the Sun Comes Up - This really had potential to start the show off right. But Michael held back. I am not sure why. He should have gone crazy with it because it’s a crazy song. It’s not a great song for displaying your vocals – it just isn’t. But it IS a song that one could show what kinda of showman he/she is and Michael didn’t do that tonight. It may be enough to keep him around another week but he didn’t do himself any favors and this should have been his strongest week.Allison Iraheta — Blame It On Your Heart - This was another really strong performance that Allison hit out of the park. She added just enough spunk that let the song be her own. The problem with Allison is that I am not sure she’s likeable enough to make it through. She’s kinda weird.Kris Allen — To Make You Feel My Love - this was an awesome vocal by Kris. He did REALLY really good and it just made him that much more appealing. I would have to say that he appeared to be singing the song to his wife and that was hot.Lil Rounds — Independence Day - This was NOT a good performance. I did not like this one bit and she really runs the risk of being booted after this performance. Is it just me or are all the contestants being given a chance to talk back to the judges? It really irks me. I wish they’d shut up and just take the criticism.Adam Lambert — Ring of Fire - what the FREAK was that? Yes. Adam stayed true to himself. What a funky queer he is. I am just not feeling it. He is so flamboyant. He is so over the top. He appeals to the masses because he’s different but he’ll be another Taylor Hicks…fun to watch during the season but all kinds of suck on the radio. He’s either got to reign it in or someone just better get his butt back to Broadway and keep it there. I mean seriously. SERIOUSLY!? Scott MacIntyre — Wild Angels - Poor Scott is being given the worst time by the judges and why? He has the biggest handicap of all the contestants. He has to learn everything blind but be expected to perform like a guy who can see. What was Paula thinking by asking him to get closer to the audience? If it were me, the last thing I’d want is to be within touching distance of people who I can’t see. I totally don’t get what they’re trying to say with Scott because he clearly has his limits on what he can do. He sang the song well and he played the piano beautifully. I don’t recall anyone telling Stevie Wonder to reach out and touch the audience. Speaking of….how many times do we have to hear Randy bring up every blind singer to ever grace a stage? Good grief. I thought Scott did pretty good and I think he’ll make the top 10. People are rooting for him.Alexis Grace — Jolene - This rendition wasn’t as bad as the judges made it out to be. I actually thought it was pretty good because it did NOT sound like Dolly Parton or Olivia Newton John and it didn’t have the usual Alexis sound. This was a time that holding back kinda worked because she, unlike Lil Rounds could pull this type of performance off. Unfortunately, I just don’t see many of the girls, Alexis included, being fan favorites this year. She is vulnerable to leave this week.Danny Gokey — Jesus Take the Wheel - I just gotta stop reading bulletin boards about Danny. People are all sorts of mean. Was this performance the best? No. Was it good? Yes. How did I feel watching him screw up the song like 4 times in front of Randy Travis? Well, I cringed. Poor guy! But it shows he’s human. He can get start struck like the best of us..but please? Randy Travis? Yeesh! Anyway, this was a good solid performance. The complaints about the beginning of the song were stupid. Of course it’s the weakest part of the song. A song with a powerful chorus usually has a weak opening lyric anyway because what good would the chorus be if it were weaker than the beginning? The song would suck! So, he did what he had to. It was a’ight.Anoop Desai — Always On My Mind - ANOOP! This was a great vocal! He did awesome and what’s cool is that this song is so typical Willie Nelson and so identifiable to him. Anoop turned it into a ballad that could possibly be a current record. I thought it was really pretty how he sang it and he solidified his standing in the top 10. We’ll see Anoop on tour this year.Megan Joy — Walking After Midnight - Yuck. I am sorry but this girl does the same thing every week. How much more awkward dancing and squinty warbling do we have to endure? Did she pick the right song? Yeah…she did. It fit her weirdness. But her bout with the flu did nothing for her vocal ability. It was just not good. Will she be around next week? Probably but she can’t win this thing. And as my dearly departed husband used to say, when it comes to be her turn on stage during the tour, it will be a good time for a bathroom break.Matt Giraud — So Small - I’ve always liked Matt. His piano playing and soulful vocals are top notch. I enjoy him very much. This was probably his best performance yet. Who’s going home? If I had it my way I’d send Adam and Megan home because I can’t freaking stand either one!!! But they probably won’t go much to my chagrin. I really think that Michael, Allison and Lil Rounds have some issues this week. Alexis is vulnerable too.

American Idol: 2nd Group of 12

Again, this week I was pretty underwhelmed when it came to the line up of “talent” for Idol night. I know that we’re still early in the season. I guess the trick is to pick the ones with promise and hope that by April they have improved so much that one is deserving of the Idol title. So, I’ll have to be patient. Here’s what folks sang last night… Jasmine Murray – Love Song… I didn’t think that this was that bad – at least not as terrible as the judges made it out to be. When you compare Jasmine to the other girls, she is one of the best ones. Yeah, the song wasn’t the greatest but it wasn’t a trainwreck either. Was it enough to get her through last night? Ummm…no, probably not but I still think she has a chance in the Wild Card round.Matt Giraud – Viva La Vida… I had high hopes for Matt. He sounded pretty good in Hollywood but last night was like, MEH! It wasn’t good at all. His voice was weak and I just was really disappointed in his performance. He could have second life in the Wild Cards or if hiss following did enough, he could persevere anyway tonight. We’ll see. Jeanine Vailes – This Love… Eek. Well, if I were her I would have been totally offended by the judges telling her that her only redeeming quality was her legs. Unfortunately for her she has had no airtime and nobody knows who she is. She is so not going through and tonight will be the last we see of her.Allison Iraheta – Alone… This girl is WEIRD! Maybe she just is a bad interview but she could not put a coherent sentence together to save her life! I thought she was high. But put her in front of a microphone and have her perform a Heart song and well, lookie what we got here! Someone who has a semblance of talent. Her performance was arguably one of the best of the night and certainly the best of all the girls. She deserves a top 3 spot tonight.Kris Allen – Man in the Mirror… I want to like Kris. First, he spells his name correctly so he gets points there. :-) But also, he’s got a nice voice and isn’t too bad to look at. The problem is he sang a Michael Jackson song (although if he had to sing one, he picked the best one to sing. At least that song is believable for someone else to sing) and the other problem is we don’t really know who he is. I think he may have a slight opportunity in the Wild Card round but I don’t think he’s done enough to get through.Nick Mitchell – And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going… Ah, NORMAN GENTLE! I have enjoyed his antics up until now. As he was performing I felt myself getting really uncomfortable because he’s made it beyond the Hollywood round and that in and of itself was surprising to me. He is that vocally talented? Um, no. Is he entertaining? ABSOLUTELY. I can’t help but laugh when I see him. And that’s the problem. He wants us to laugh. He wants us to be entertained. And he’s mocking the process. I can see why Simon is so annoyed. If the Norman charade continues all season then it will devalue the show as a legitimate talent search. But if he can so something as himself and show some versatility, then maybe he can be taken seriously as a performer. If anything, I wouldn’t mind him taking Seacrest’s job.. Megan Corkrey – Put Your Record On… Local girl here… And while it’s nice to root for someone from your area, the person should be worthy. I think she just sounds weird. I know that the folksy and unique sound is the “in thing” these days but it’s just not my cup of tea. Megan sang a song well suited for her. Good choice but I think she’d struggle with some other kinds of music and her “dancing” is in need of improvement. I felt her jerky motions were totally distracting. Standing there behind a mike stand and just doing a spastic version of the twist doesn’t do anything for my not staring at her ugly-assed tattoo on her arm. She could be the 3rd choice tonight, but I really don’t think she will get too far.Matt Brietzke – If You Can Only See… This is another performance that wasn’t as bad as what the judges made it out to be. I thought he sang the song well and he’s one of the ones that is great to root for because he IS your every man’s man. He has a raw talent and it would be good to see him succeed. He would be my 3rd choice for tonight.Jesse Langseth – Bette Davis Eyes… I hate it when contestants talk back to the judges. I know she wasn’t being contentious or anything but she was having a conversation and that grates on my nerves. She just rubs me the wrong way. I don’t find her particularly appealing. I thought her sweater looked dumb. Her vocals were ok but this song is iconic. I never really liked it when it was originally released but Kim Karnes has such a distinctive voice I just can’t hear anyone else singing this song. I just didn’t like it. Kai Kalama – What Becomes of the Broken-hearted… This was “ok”. He’s been a camera favorite since the beginning of the season because he’s interesting looking and he has a sickly mother (who apparently was well enough to stand up and boogie while he was singing. Hmmm. Curious). But the song was boring. And the performance was boring and although he won’t progress to the top 3 tonight, he will likely have a 2nd chance in the Wild Cards.Mishavonna Henson – Drops of Jupiter… I want to like this person. But I can’t stop staring at her pug nose and slanty eyes. It’s weird! And I know I am so shallow when I say that because she’s interesting otherwise. Maybe she’s exotic. Maybe her father was a G.I. (lol). I dunno. Of the girls, she was the 2nd best. She could have 2nd life in the wild cards but I just don’t know…I don’t see her making it far either. Adam Lambert – Satisfaction… Adam is this season’s David Cook. I don’t mean that in a good way. Adam is very dramatic. His range is ridiculous. And I am just not feeling the love here. He’s clearly a show favorite and he is being prepped as the guy who will take it all away from Danny Gokey (just like Cook vs. Archuleta last year). He is clearly in his element on stage but he’s another that just does nothing for me…maybe he’ll get better. Maybe he’ll update his look. Maybe he’ll get mono and have to forfeit. But there’s no question, he’ll be the top choice for tonight and move into the final 12.
