*** WARNING — This is a RANT ***I enjoy movies. I like getting lost for a couple hours from the reality of life. I don’t need to nor desire to be preached to or indoctrinated into a certain point of view. I don’t appreciate films that do this. It defeats the purpose of entertainment. It is just in my opinion – NOT FUN. There are some films that make no bones about it. Take for example, Michael Moore films. They are as they are advertised to be – Michael Moore’s version of reality. I call it twisted rhetoric edited and molded into a bunch of drivel… crap, if you will… BUT…He is at least honest in what he’s selling. You watch one of his movies and you know what you’re going to get. What bothers me most are the films that are meant to entertain and still like to put a dig in at people like me, like the show Big Love. No, I am not a polygamist but I am Mormon. And the Mormon representation in this show is so distorted and so beyond what is real, it’s not even funny. It amazes me how sucked in people have become by this show. Not only is the story telling bad but the acting is terrible. Never mind that EVERYTHING in the show that represents my church or beliefs is a bunch of garbage. Stereotypes are for cowards who don’t use their minds to know what’s real. It’s like a bully…they do things and say things that cut other people down because it makes them feel big. It may give them the illusion that they are better than everyone else but in the end all they end up being is a bully. Now, why would I jump on this soapbox with a picture of Meryl Streep dressed like Julia Child holding dead chicken? Well, the picture is hilarious on one hand. And on the other hand it’s almost like a metaphor… am I the dead chicken and is she laughing at me?? In all seriousness, I watched this week, the movie Julie and Julia. It is a good story and well acted. I was entertained for about 99% of the time. But it didn’t take long for me to get a bad taste in my mouth. Twice during the film the dialogue called for one of the characters to make a generalization about Republicans. It was a jab at how heartless and cruel Republicans are. There is nothing redeeming about a Republican. The comment was off-handed and easily dismissed which I suppose most people would do. But it left me cold. I was like SAY WHAT? Is this guy trying to say that in order to be compassionate, we’d have to be liberal? There’s a difference between liberal and conservative mindsets… liberals will give a man a fish and feed him for a day but a conservative will teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Cliche, yes. To a liberal, you can’t teach a man to fish because once you do that he’s not beholden to you any more and how powerful can you be if you don’t have minions taking your hand outs. Hey…I’m all about liberty and freedom and being self-sufficient. But, I digress…. So this stupid movie insinuated I am not compassionate simply because I check the “R” on my voter registration. I know it’s a lot to read from a tiny scene in this movie but it’s not the only movie out there that is doing crap like this. It’s on TV too. Just little comments, insults, innuendos that are fed into our minds on a daily basis. No wonder there is a divide in this country. Nobody has anything nice to say about anyone!! It’s so irritating!Today I went to see Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. The movie? It was not Oscar material. I didn’t expect it to be. It suspended my reality for 2 hours so I guess that is ok. And for the most part the movie was alright even though the most entertaining part was hearing all the little 12 year old girls in the audience scream when the lead character first came on the screen. But again….there was that one line that stuck out. This time it wasn’t an insult about Republicans or conservatives. In this particular scene, Percy Jackson had just learned he was the offspring of a mythical Greek God and a human mother. He was taken to a special “camp” for demi-gods (children of Gods and humans). He is being told that there are hundreds of other people just like him – even famous people. Not just any famous people… like WHITE HOUSE famous people. Um…. okaaaaaaay? So, Obama is a demi-God. Great. as if the worship wasn’t disgusting enough when the guy was elected. Now they are not so subtly saying that Obama is God-like. Seriously, Hollyweird? You think so? Give me a break. You see, in the film, with the exception of a bad guy named Luke, the demi-gods could do no wrong. They were the perfect combination of gods and Humans… They have the power and strength of a god but the compassion of a human. Er…make that a liberal human…So, anyway… this is my rant. I was just annoyed. All I wanted was to see a couple movies and lose myself for a while. Is that too much to ask?
There have been months of partisan bickering that is really not solving anything. If it’s doing something, it’s further allowing my faith in the people working in our government (on our behalf, I might add) to dwindle. I’m not sure there’s anything left to believe in when it comes to our rights as citizens of this great country. There is just too much divisiveness. I think it’s almost impossible to get anything done without compromise and both sides are unwilling to budge. The President has spoken twice this week to large national audiences and what he has said has been both good and bad. However, I don’t trust the man. I don’t like him and had it not been for the furor and the negative public opinion about what he had to say to our children, we would have gotten a different speech than what he gave. And what gets me about the left and those who vigorously defend the President is that they are missing the point. Although there are some who adamantly opposed letting their children hear the President talk, there were many of us who objected more to what came after the speech. I would have been willing to let my daughter hear what the President had to say (which was mostly all good, btw) had it not been for the lesson plan that they were requiring teachers to follow and the activities that they were forcing our kids to partake in. Call me crazy but I don’t want my kid being used as a tool to help shape public opinion of ANY President. Finally, amongst all this hoopla, it was reported (although not covered by admittedly pro-Obama media) that President George H.W. Bush spoke with students too and his speech not only was heavily scrutinized by the Democrats, they opened up an investigation and hearings to find out if Bush had broken any constitutional law. Hypocrisy, anyone?Last night the President spoke to a joint session of Congress about his plans for healthcare. Despite the majority of Americans not supporting his ideas for healthcare reform, the President pretty much said that your either with us or against us and no matter what side you’re on, we’re going to do what we’re going to do. Part of me would like to see this come to pass just so we can see the colossal failure that it will be and how we can trace it right back to this yahoo and his minions who currently hold the majority (not for long, folks). But the main part of me is freaking out that this could actually happen. He’s talking about FORCING all people to buy a health plan and if you don’t, you’ll be taxed. The latest number being reported is that a person who opts out of health care insurance would be taxed about $3500/year. So take me for example… I am a widowed mother to a 7 year old child. I was laid off from my job a year ago and currently remain unemployed and uninsured. I live on a meager social security benefit that provides the main staples of my life to my daughter and myself. It works out to about $10,000/year. I will be penalized because I am exercising my FREE WILL to not participate. Obama says that for those who cannot afford the public option, there will be assistance for you but then in the same breath says that this will not add ONE DIME to the DEFICIT. How???President Obama invoked Edward Kennedy’s name last night as some sort of inspirational “Let’s win one for Teddy” moment. But he failed to acknowledge that Teddy’s own state of Massachusetts already has a law that requires people to get health insurance. You have to have it there. Employers who want to offer employees a discounted plan because their employees either work part time or don’t make enough to justify the large cost of a full plan cannot offer them the discounted plan because it doesn’t meet the requirements set by law. Therefore, employees who are struggling as it is, are forced to go out and buy their own insurance. This surely doesn’t add any incentive to move to Massachusetts. And the program there is failing. They call it a public option but there is nothing optional about it. We’ll have to do it. One way or the other. Obama said it himself. It would be just like how states require us to have car insurance. But there is a reason for the car insurance requirement, Mr. President. It’s to protect us from other people who hurt us – those noninsured who drive the wrong way on the freeway or those fender benders we have in the intersection. What or who is this forced insurance protecting us from? I would think that the most important issue is the fact that the cost of being seen by a doctor and getting care is so expensive. Anyone who has stayed in a hospital and has seen their itemized bill will tell you that $50 for a pair of those ugly blue socks they make you wear and $20 for a Tylenol is excessive. Why don’t we try fixing that first? The bottom line is that I am against – as we all should be – anything that will hurt us rather than help us and anything that will control us and keep us from being FREE.
If it were as simple as telling kids how important an education is, I would have no problem with President Obama addressing our kids. But after speaking with my sister-in-law yesterday who is a teacher and is being forced by the school district to show this speech to her 3rd grade students, I have some serious problems with it. She told me that the lesson plans she was given didn’t just talk about education. The plans included making the children write letters to the president – positive ones which is in no doubt a way to spin PR back into his favor. I seriously doubt that the White House will share with us any letters written by children which criticize him and his policies. If anyone has a child or at least is around them day to day, they will tell you that children are incredibly honest. So, he’s bound to get a few. But we’ll only hear the good ones. You know..the ones that say that he’ll help their Mommy’s and Daddy’s pay for their home and how when Grandma gets terminal cancer, he’ll save her. I dunno. I just have a problem with someone using my kid as a tool. And that’s exactly what he’ll do. If this was a sincere request to speak with our children to give them an uplifting message and not something he’d use later to make him look good, then it’d be fine. But this all sounds so Fidel Castro-ish to me. How much longer will it be before we see our little ones marching around in a daze and repeating words that our President says? What of teaching the children individuality and thinking for ones self?Oh, what harm could this do? The left would ask? He’s just talking to some children! What silly nillies to be so paranoid. Give me one reason to trust you, Barry. You haven’t even been in office a year. Yet, you’ve managed to take over the car industry. You are hell bent on passing legislation that will dictate care and decide when a person is worth saving or not. You’ll do it without the support of the majority of the country just because you know you can. You want cap and trade which will increase costs of livings for every Americans and put American businesses OUT of business. Something tells me that this is a sneaky little way for your government to come in and take that over too and “save the day”. You’re all about control – controlling people’s freedom to drive the cars they want, seek the healthcare they want, get the home loans they want, and thinking the way they want and you’ll start with the little, innocent minds of children. In a way, I’m glad you’ve bitten off more than you can chew because its exposed you as the fraud I always knew you were a little sooner than I anticipated. I sense a revolution brewing and it pleases me to no end that you and your socialist cronies are to blame for it.
I can’t be the only one who thinks this picture is hilarious. It just goes to show you that a picture can be taken out of context…or can it? Is the President really looking at this woman’s butt? Who knows? What I do know is that I certainly wouldn’t want the press following me around all the time. Who knows what kind of crazy stuff they can catch me doing…nah…I’m not that interesting!!
